Before you begin

This course asks you to check what the Bible says rather than take anybody's word for it, including ours.

Each lesson works through one subject, with the passages set out so you can look them up as you go. You will need a Bible beside you. Questions appear through each lesson so you can test what you have understood, and every answer is explained, whether you get it right or not.

Nothing is timed and nothing is marked. Work at whatever pace suits you, and pick up where you left off. If a lesson raises a question, there is a tutor who will answer it.

What you need

  • A Bible, in any translation you are comfortable with
  • Between twenty and forty-five minutes for each lesson
  • Somewhere quiet enough to read properly

The twelve lessons

All twelve lessons are ready.

Lesson 1. The Bible What the Bible claims about its own origin, how it is put together, and the evidence behind the claim. About 25 minutes Lesson 2. God Is there a God, what has he revealed about himself, and what the Bible actually teaches about his nature. About 30 minutes Lesson 3. God's Plan and Purpose A pagan king dreams about a statue of gold, silver, brass and iron. Twenty-five centuries later it is still being fulfilled. About 40 minutes Lesson 4. Death What happens when a person dies, and the one hope the Bible holds out. About 25 minutes Lesson 5. The Promises of God What God promised in Eden, to Noah and to Abraham, and why none of it has happened yet. About 30 minutes Lesson 6. The Lord Jesus Christ Who he was, whose son he was, why he came, and what he is doing now. About 20 minutes Lesson 7. The Promises of God The promise made to David, and the king who will sit on his throne in a kingdom on this earth. About 20 minutes Lesson 8. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ Why God raised him, why it had to happen, and what it means for everyone else. About 25 minutes Lesson 9. The Return of Jesus Christ The signs God gave that his Son is coming back to this earth, and why they point to a time very near. About 45 minutes Lesson 10. The Gospel What the word means, how old the good news turns out to be, and what it asks of the person who hears it. About 20 minutes Lesson 11. Baptism What it is, what it is not, who it is for, and why the Bible treats one specific act as essential. About 25 minutes Lesson 12. The Kingdom of God A real kingdom on this earth with Jesus as king, what it will be like, and how a person comes to be in it. About 20 minutes

Your place in each lesson is remembered, so you can stop at any time and pick up where you left off.

Any question, at any point

You do not have to finish a lesson, or the course, before asking something. If a passage does not make sense, or an answer raises more questions than it settles, that is worth a conversation.
